Best Practices for Managing Animal Related Cores (Wednesday, August 14, 8:30 AM -12:45 PM)
Intended for managers and assistant managers of animal-related cores.
The translatability of animal models for clinical relevance has come under increasing scrutiny in recent years. Animal core facilities can play a pivotal role in addressing this challenge. In this workshop, we will explore the hurdles involved in establishing and overseeing animal-related cores, with a focus on navigating the complexities of collaborating with principal investigators on their research projects. Additionally, we will delve into the potential of artificial intelligence in enhancing rodent health and optimizing the collection and analysis of research data points.
Schedule and featured speakers:
8:30-8:35-Introduction
8:35-9:30- Challenges starting and managing animal related cores
* Vanessa Thompson, PhD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Comprehensive Cancer Center – “Innovations for Starting PDX Cores”
* Deborah Lazzarino, M.A., PhD, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School “Behavior and Metabolomics Core”
9:30-10:00 am -Technology in Animal Cores session 1
*Kristin Uyl, Transnetyx – “Breeding efficiently with AI powered colony management software”
10:00-10:30 am – Break
10:30-11:30 am – Technology in Animal Cores session 2
*Brian Canna, Tecniplast – “Digitial cage data and how it is being used in research and vivarium management”
*Jose Gadea, Allentown, Inc – “Undisturbed monitoring of digital biomarkers in group-housed mice”
11:30-12:45 pm – Special Considerations: Principal Investigators and Directors perspective working with animal related cores
* Frank Jenkins, PhD, University of Pittsburg- “A PIs perspective on why are the PIs so angry and anxious all of the time?”
* Rena Lapidus, PhD, University of Maryland – “A director’s perspective on why are the PIs so angry and anxious all of the time?”
